Green Globe Welcomes Jonnel Edwards, Appointed Certification & Membership Care Manager

As the movement toward independently verified sustainability sweeps across the international travel and tourism industry, Green Globe is expanding its team to meet demand.

Green Globe is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonnel Edwards as Certification & Membership Care Manager. Jonnel’s diverse experience as a qualified marine biologist with a Master’s Degree in Science, and as a tourism industry veteran, brings a wealth of knowledge to assist Green Globe members navigate their journey to certification.

Jonnel says, “I see my career journey thus far as an opportunity to pay it forward to upcoming professionals that I encounter in my areas of expertise, as knowledge must be shared. My multifaceted interests in sustainability, marine biology, and hospitality have enabled me to have a cultured view of the world and humanity as a whole … everything is connected!”

As Certification & Membership Manager, Jonnel’s key role will be to guide Green Globe members in their use of GGS, the online platform managing compliance to certification criteria and indicators. GGS enables Green Globe members to respond to criteria and up load documentation and other evidence in preparation for the mandatory, onsite and independent audit. The online platform also allows members to manage their team, assigning criteria to different departments and provide a continuous overview of progress.

Jonnel’s past roles as Green Team leader at Mount Cinnamon Beach Resort, Grenada and Environmental Manager at Rockhouse Hotel, Jamaica, give her excellent insight into the challenges and rewards of building a team dedicated to the role out of a tourism enterprise’s sustainability management plan.

Jonnel explains, “My past experience on the practical side of completing certification and then maintaining continuous improvement, gives me the insights to guide our Green Globe members. While it is their responsibility to put into action their sustainability management plan, it is my role to help them at the enterprise level to better understand how to share the responsibilities and together reap the rewards.”

Jonnel added, “Making substantial cost savings, lowering emissions and reducing waste are the tangible results that I have been able to achieve as a Green Team Leader and Environmental Manager. What is equally exciting to see, is the staff engage and enjoy the challenge of making a real difference and the enthusiastic response from guests who celebrate the achievements and recognise Green Globe certified hotels and resorts as responsible and world leading business.”
