Mövenpick Hotel Doha Achieves Green Globe Gold Certification Following Five Years of Sustainable Hospitality Leadership

Mövenpick Hotel Doha has achieved Green Globe Gold certification, a distinguished recognition awarded exclusively to members that have maintained Green Globe certification for five consecutive years. This milestone reflects the hotel's long-standing commitment to environmental stewardship, responsible tourism, community engagement, and operational excellence. It also reinforces Mövenpick Hotel Doha's position as one of Qatar's leading hospitality establishments dedicated to creating a positive impact for both people and the planet.

Commenting on the achievement, Dan Sebastian Mantoiu, General Manager of Mövenpick Hotel Doha said, "Achieving Green Globe Gold certification is an important milestone for Mövenpick Hotel Doha and a proud reflection of the dedication demonstrated by our entire team over the past five years. Sustainability is deeply embedded within our culture and influences every aspect of our operations—from resource conservation and waste reduction to community engagement and employee empowerment. This recognition celebrates the collective efforts of our Heartists, partners, and guests who continue to support our vision of responsible hospitality and a more sustainable future."

As part of the global Accor and Mövenpick network, Mövenpick Hotel Doha remains committed to advancing sustainable tourism practices that create lasting value for guests, employees, local communities, and the environment. Guided by Accor's Purpose - to care for people and the planet - Mövenpick Hotel Doha has embedded sustainability into every aspect of its operations. Over the past five years, the hotel has implemented a comprehensive sustainability strategy focused on reducing its environmental footprint, conserving natural resources, empowering employees, and supporting local communities.

Advancing Sustainable Operations Through Innovation
At the core of the hotel's sustainability journey is a commitment to continuously improving operational efficiency through innovative environmental practices. Over recent years, Mövenpick Hotel Doha has implemented an extensive energy conservation program that has transformed the property's energy performance. Conventional lighting throughout the hotel has been replaced with energy-efficient LED technology, while lighting wattage has been reduced across multiple operational areas. Variable Frequency Drive (VFD) systems have been activated for pumps and motors to optimise energy consumption, and sensor-operated lighting systems have been introduced in public areas to reduce unnecessary electricity usage.

Further improvements include the installation of a Guest Room Management System (GRMS), enabling keycard activated power controls in guest rooms, as well as timer-controlled perimeter lighting and illuminated signage. The hotel has also invested in upgrading guest room fan coil units (FCUs) with energy-saving models and converting existing three-way valve systems to more efficient two-way valve technology to improve cooling performance and reduce energy demand.

These initiatives collectively support the hotel's objective of delivering exceptional guest experiences while reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible resource consumption.

Preserving Water Resources Through Responsible Management
Recognising the importance of water conservation in the region, Mövenpick Hotel Doha has implemented a series of measures designed to improve water efficiency throughout the property. Sensor-operated faucets have been installed in public area wash basins, traditional single-flush toilets have been upgraded to dual-flush systems, and water-free urinals have been introduced in lobby facilities.

Water-saving aerators have also been fitted across guest rooms and public wash areas to reduce overall consumption without compromising comfort. The hotel further encourages guests to participate in its towel and linen reuse program, promoting shared responsibility and supporting sustainable travel practices. Together, these initiatives contribute to the hotel's ongoing efforts to conserve one of the region's most valuable natural resources.

Delivering Measurable Results Through Waste and Food Waste Reduction Mövenpick Hotel Doha's sustainability efforts are driven by data, accountability, and continuous improvement. Through the implementation of the GAIA Waste Monitoring Platform and the Winnow Food Waste Management System, the hotel actively tracks waste generation and resource consumption, enabling teams to make informed decisions and identify opportunities for improvement. Between March 2025 and February 2026, the hotel successfully diverted more than 621 kilograms of waste from landfill through dedicated recycling programs. Recyclable materials including paper, cardboard, glass, and plastic were systematically collected and processed as part of the hotel's commitment to responsible waste management and circular economy principles.

The hotel has also achieved notable progress in reducing food waste. By leveraging technology-driven monitoring systems, improving kitchen processes, and increasing employee awareness, food waste has been reduced from 47.37 grams per cover in 2024 to 37.05 grams per cover in 2025 — resulting in an improvement of approximately 22%. During the same period, food waste as a percentage of sales improved from 0.69% to 0.50%, while the value of food waste per cover decreased from QAR 0.32 to QAR 0.22. These achievements demonstrate the hotel's commitment to reducing waste, enhancing efficiency, and minimising its environmental footprint.

The Green Team: Inspiring a Culture of Sustainability
A key driver behind Mövenpick Hotel Doha's sustainability success is its dedicated Green Team, whose passion and commitment continue to inspire positive environmental action throughout the hotel. Through regular training programs and awareness campaigns, employees receive practical guidance on sustainability best practices, including energy conservation, water-saving initiatives, waste segregation, and responsible workplace behaviours. By empowering staff members, known as Heartists, to become sustainability ambassadors, the hotel has successfully fostered a culture where environmental responsibility is embraced across all departments.

Making a Positive Impact Beyond Hotel Walls
Mövenpick Hotel Doha believes that sustainability extends far beyond operational practices and requires meaningful engagement with the community. On 18 September 2025, the hotel proudly partnered with the Ministry of Municipality and volunteers from across Qatar to participate in a large-scale Beach Clean-Up Campaign at Al Ruwais Beach. The initiative reflected Accor's Purpose and showcased the true Heartist Spirit demonstrated by hotel team members, who dedicated their time and effort to protecting Qatar's coastline and marine environment.

The campaign highlighted the importance of environmental stewardship while encouraging collective action towards a cleaner and healthier future. Mövenpick Hotel Doha was subsequently honoured by the Ministry of Municipality's General Cleaness Department in contributing to this initiative, reaffirming the hotel's commitment to creating a positive and lasting impact within the community.

A series of environmental activities designed to inspire awareness and engagement among guests and employees were also held as part of Earth Day celebrations at the hotel. A tree- planting initiative was organised in collaboration with the presenters of Qabayan Radio 94.3, and a Sustainability Pledge Board launched where guests and employees were invited to share their personal commitments towards protecting the environment. Each pledge represented a promise to support a cleaner, healthier planet and reflected the collective responsibility shared by the hotel community to safeguard natural resources for future generations.

These initiatives embody Mövenpick Hotel Doha's belief that true hospitality extends beyond service excellence — it includes caring for the world we all share.

Recognised for Sustainability Leadership
The hotel's commitment to sustainability has also received recognition at a national level. During Hospitality Qatar 2025, Mövenpick Hotel Doha was honoured with the Sustainability Initiative of the Yearaward for its Green Globe program. Presented by Qatar Tourism and IFP Qatar, the award recognised the hotel's ongoing efforts to integrate sustainability into its operations, engage employees in environmental initiatives, and contribute positively to the wider community.

This recognition further validates the hotel's long-term sustainability strategy and commitment to driving positive change within Qatar's hospitality sector. The achievement of Green Globe Gold certification represents not only a celebration of past accomplishments, but also a renewed commitment to building a greener, more resilient future for Qatar's hospitality industry and the generations to come.
