Royalton Saint Lucia: Championing Caribbean Conservation

Royalton Saint Lucia is a luxurious, all-inclusive 5 star resort, nestled in the lush cove of one of the most picturesque islands in the Eastern Caribbean. The resort’s modern facilities, warm staff, and exhilarating locale, rich with culture and world-class cuisine are the backdrop for an unforgettable All- In Luxury® escape.

Built for travellers of all ages, this modern resort features 3 distinct sections offering a family friendly vacation experience in the general resort; Diamond Club™ for a higher level of service and exclusive pool, beach and dining areas; and Hideaway an adults only oasis.

General Manager of Royalton Saint Lucia said, “The world is becoming increasingly conscious of the environmental impact of business operations and remains committed to environmental stewardship in ensuring the sustainability of the tourism industry. We fully recognize and take responsibility for environmental impact that resorts can potentially have and have taken deliberate measures to mitigate those risks to manageable and environmentally responsible levels.”

Early in 2022, the resort satisfied the criteria for the Green Globe Standard 1.7 and was awarded its Green Globe Certificate for sustainable operations and management. As part of Royalton Luxury Resorts, Royalton Saint Lucia is aware that creating and maintaining a sustainable culture involves a process of continuous improvement, underpinned by their long-term commitment. The resort group’s environmental and social endeavors and achievements can be found on their sustainable practices website.

Efforts are ongoing at Royalton Saint Lucia to protect and enhance their idyllic Caribbean home. The resort is keenly focused on environmental conservation which results in protection of local natural landscapes, while contributing to the mitigation of climate change which threatens Island nations globally. The following are main pillars in protecting water resources and reducing energy demands.

 Protection of the Marine Environment
Protection of marine life and biodiversity through proactive management of the water quality is effectively managed by improving the quality of grey water discharged into the environment. This was achieved through increased filtration levels and better overall performance of the Waste-Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) on resort.

Waste Management
The Resort’s operations are designed to minimize the impact on the neighboring communities through the self-sufficient generation of water in the Reverse Osmosis plant. The plant produces a daily average of 37m3. Additionally, the waste-water treatment facility optimizes the use of black water and ensures that the water quality generated meets environmental discharge standards and is diverted to natural containment for irrigation purposes. The WWTP produces approximately 50m3 of water per hour.

Energy Management
In an effort to improve the efficient use of non-renewable resources, all ground lighting was changed to solar spot 3W LED lights with lithium batteries.  Additionally, 90% of the lighting on the resort was converted to LED during the last financial period.
