Occidental Cozumel Resort Dives Underwater to Rescue Marine Ecosystems in Mexico
Barcelo Occidental Cozumel Resort and ProDive are very clear about the importance of environmental sustainability and conservation, which is why they are committed to rescuing the marine ecosystems of the barrier reef that runs along much of the island of Cozumel, Mexico. For this purpose, an important collaboration agreement has been signed with the organization Corales Vivos, dedicated to the protection and reproduction of coral reefs on the island.
This alliance aims not only to support the reproduction and restoration of corals, but also to promote environmental awareness and community participation in conservation projects. The role of Occidental Cozumel Resort and ProDive is to sponsor dive trips to areas suitable for planting and reproduction of the Acropora Cervicornis (Staghorn Horn) species. It has been an enriching experience that has allowed team members to learn first-hand about the scientific and community work being done to rescue these vital ecosystems for marine biodiversity and the territorial protection of the island from threats of meteorological events.
Occidental Cozumel Resort knows that real change begins with concrete actions. The resort’s collaboration with Corales Vivos is part of a series of initiatives aimed at reducing the property’s environmental impact and making a positive contribution to the natural environment. The resort will continue to promote these types of efforts, convinced that every step counts in building a more sustainable future.
