Sustainable Tourism Aligns with Respect for the Environment at Domaine Le Mezo
Green Globe Certification has awarded Domaine Le Mezo in France its inaugural certification.

Surrounded by nature, nestled in the heart of the Gulf of Morbihan Regional Natural Park in South Brittany lies Domaine Le Mezo. Not just a castle, a simple reception hall, or a seminar center, the Event Estate is a hybrid creation, born to embrace the diversity of today's events. This prestigious site showcases heritage and nature where sustainable tourism is aligned with respect for the environment. Although just starting its Green Globe journey the center’s sustainability management plan (SMP) maintains a positive, forward-looking approach focused on continuous improvement.
Greening Operations
Domaine Le Mezo takes a comprehensive approach to reducing energy consumption, combining passive solutions, integrated into the design of buildings and spaces, with active technologies.The estate relies on 100% green electricity (wind & solar) and includes a biomass heating network, photovoltaic canopies on the car park, and an energy class A certification which have all been integrated since the estate's renovation. The biomass system is partially fueled by on-site fast growing bamboo-like perennial grasses called miscanthus, eliminating dependence on external energy sources.
To further reduce environmental impacts, an ozonated water system has been implemented, replacing all chemical cleaning products and detergents across the property. The ozonated water solution used for cleaning surfaces is neutral and contains no hazardous products, creating a hygienic eco-friendly environment.
Protecting Biodiversity and Supporting Local Food Producers
The renovation of the estate blends modernism with the preservation of authenticity, quality craftsmanship, and respect for traditions using natural materials including cork and wood that will stand the test of time.Domaine le Mezo is situated on 25 hectares of preserved parkland where 5 beehives produce golden honey served at breakfast. A kitchen garden, herb garden and two orchards supply the chef’s daily menu requirements. The Nova-Flore wildlife refuge is a dedicated biodiversity area planted with 24 native wildflower species to provide food and shelter for pollinators and other beneficial insects. Additionally, the restaurant runs a full locavore menu featuring regional flavors with seasonal, organic produce sourced around the Gulf of Morbihan.
Responsible Tourism Approach
In line with its sustainability vision and focus on team engagement, all of Domaine Le Mezo’s 100-strong team is trained in climate awareness through the Fresque du Climat workshop. Winner of the 2025 Trophée de l'Engagement Responsable et Social (SO Événements, Nantes). To actively minimize its ecological footprint, electric vehicle charging stations and e-bikes for guests have been introduced, and a zero-waste policy is applied through composting and bio-waste sorting.
