Creating a More Sustainable Future at U Jomtien Pattaya

U Jomtien Pattaya was recently awarded its inaugural Green Globe certification. U Jomtien Pattaya is a beachfront retreat situated on the picturesque Jomtien Beach in Thailand. With its contemporary architecture and interiors and deluxe amenities, the 4-star hotel offers a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of the city.

General Manager, Pakkapol Muangsirithum shared his delight in this outstanding achievement saying, “We are truly honored to achieve Green Globe certification at U Jomtien Pattaya. This milestone reflects the passion and dedication of our team in creating a more sustainable future for hospitality. We believe sustainability is not only about protecting the environment, but also about creating meaningful experiences for our guests and making a positive contribution to our local community.”

Sustainable development and the hotel’s various green initiatives are key pillars in the hotel’s sustainability management plan. The hotel’s responsible procurement policy supports local and sustainable products. As part of U Jomtien Pattaya’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and community development, the hotel is dedicated to sourcing locally produced coffee, tea, and fresh ingredients for use in guest rooms and dining outlets operations. The quintessential Thai dining experience highlighting tantalizing exotic flavors features ingredients from nearby suppliers such as fresh seafood, seasonal fruits, local vegetables and Thai herbs. A strong emphasis is placed on collaborating with local suppliers who demonstrate environmentally responsible and sustainable practices that support the regional economy while upholding the highest standards of quality, integrity, and environmental stewardship.

Caring Today for a Better Tomorrow is an important part of the hotel’s green vision. At U Jomtien Pattaya, it is firmly believed that every action matters. Guided by a commitment to sustainability and community well-being, the property continuously strives to create positive impacts both within the local community and beyond. The hotel aims to preserve the natural beauty of Pattaya and support the local community that surrounds it through a range of environmental conservation initiatives, local engagement and guest participation programs.

Environmental activities include beach clean-up programs, biodiversity protection campaigns, and the establishment of Nature’s Basket – the small onsite organic garden - where herbs, vegetables and some fruits are cultivated using eco-friendly methods. The fresh produce used in the kitchen provides fresh ingredients for guests to enjoy and helps reduce transportation emissions.

Social initiatives include community education and internships, donations of food and financial assistance. Retired items in good condition such as towels, linen, furniture and other useful supplies are also given to local communities and charities. During the annual U Make a Difference campaign, guests and staff members can join volunteer activities including beach cleaning, tree planting and supporting local schools or community projects. These activities help improve the environment as well as support the local community.

“All these initiatives are designed to foster meaningful connections and long-term benefits for the environment and society. Together with our guests, partners, and community, we are nurturing a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable future for generations to come,” explained Pakkapol Muangsirithum.

The Green Team at U Jomtien Pattaya consists of staff representatives from each hotel department. The team drives sustainability initiatives across the property through promotion of eco-conscious hospitality operations, encouraging employees to actively support the property’s green efforts, and programs that invite visitors to participate in sustainability initiatives such as the towel and linen reuse program that minimizes energy and water consumption. Guests who choose to opt out of room cleaning are rewarded with a 100THB voucher per night.

Following circular economy principles, U Jomtien Pattaya has joined the Soap For Hope program where used soap is cleaned and recycled into hygienic products for disadvantaged communities. Landfill waste is also minimized through repurposing discarded soap remnants.

Last year, the hotel proudly received Thailand’s Green Hotel 2025 Bronze Level Certification and Carbon Emission Reduction Certification for measurable reductions in its carbon footprint through sustainable amenities and operational improvements.
