Hotel San Régis: Responsible Elegance at One of the World’s Most Beautiful Hotels
Tucked away on a quiet street in the heart of Paris’s Golden Triangle, the San Régis has long been cherished for the intimate atmosphere of a private family home. Independently owned and operated by the Georges family, the hotel has been awarded its first Green Globe certification, marking a new milestone in its ongoing commitment to more responsible hospitality. For years, the Georges family has been dedicated to preserving the soul of the San Régis: its unique character, timeless elegance and deeply personal sense of hospitality. Each of the hotel’s rooms and suites is individually styled, bringing together carefully sourced antiques, period furniture, original artworks and fabrics from some of the finest French houses. Today, this same attention to detail extends beyond aesthetics, with a growing commitment to protecting the environment and preserving the hotel’s heritage for generations to come.
Quentin Martin, Director of Operations said, “At the San Régis, we believe that true luxury lies in combining timeless hospitality with environmental and social responsibility. As a family‑run and independent house deeply rooted in our neighborhood, achieving Green Globe certification is an important milestone that reflects the daily commitment of our teams and our determination to offer our guests a more sustainable and meaningful experience while contributing positively to our local community.”
Responsible Elegance lies at the core of the hotel’s sustainability vision. San Régis has been actively engaged in a social and eco-responsible approach for many years. With its new Green Globe certification, the entire team will continue to implement and develop sustainability practices at the hotel.
San Régis has adopted cutting edge technology and systems to reduce energy consumption. Optimizing energy resources is one of the key areas of improvement. Thermal insulation installed on the hotel’s utility networks and roof, and connection to the Paris district heating system Compagnie Parisienne de Chauffage Urbain (CPCU) and the Fraîcheur de Paris cooling network significantly reduces the property’s carbon footprint. The CPCU urban heating system steers away from heavy fossil fuels and instead relies on a combination of deep geothermal energy extraction, biomass, and heat recovery captured from waste management facilities. Fraîcheur de Paris operates Europe's largest urban cooling network, supplying chilled water through underground pipes.
Sustainable restaurant sourcing is another priority in the hotel’s sustainability management plan (SMP). The hotel’s restaurant - Les Confidences - is supplied through short supply chains and local partners, working exclusively with seasonal products to support regional producers and reduce food miles. In addition, San Régis has designed its own responsible procurement policy with an interesting inventory of some of its key frequent procurement areas including Food & Beverage, hygiene cleaning products and paper. This specific listing helps the property better identify eco-sourced items and those that could be converted in the future.
In line with the hotel’s waste management strategy, food waste is composted, and cardboard, paper, and ink cartridges are collected for recycling to minimize waste volume. The hotel strives to reduce paper usage as much as possible and has introduced digital check-ins to limit printing jobs. In addition, thanks to a culture of high standard food service there is very little food waste returned to kitchens. Breakfasts served in individual portions also contributes to reducing food waste.
As a family-run company, all team members are respected and valued for their contributions to more sustainable hotel operations. San Régis has implemented a bespoke sports and well‑being program tailored to the physically demanding and exacting roles within hospitality to better support its team’s health, safety, and long‑term employment.Led by coaches, the program is a weekly initiative offering several sessions for staff members including running, muscle strengthening, osteopathy sessions as well as other activities focused on staff well-being.
