Fairmont Hanoi Earns Green Globe Certification, Reaffirming Its Commitment to Responsible Luxury
Certified within its first year of opening, the milestone recognises the hotel's commitment to environmental stewardship, cultural preservation and community engagement.
Fairmont Hanoi proudly announces that it has just been awarded Green Globe certification in September 2026, marking a significant achievement in its sustainability journey within its first year of opening. The internationally recognised certification reflects the hotel's commitment to integrating responsible practices across its operations, guest experiences and community initiatives.
Jean-Francois Brun, General Manager.
Building on Fairmont Hotels & Resorts' longstanding legacy of environmental stewardship and Accor's Hosting Change sustainability roadmap, Fairmont Hanoi is advancing a vision of responsible luxury where exceptional hospitality goes hand in hand with resource conservation, cultural appreciation and meaningful contributions to local communities.
"Achieving Green Globe Certification so early in our journey is an important milestone for Fairmont Hanoi, but more importantly, it reflects the culture we are building," said Jean-Francois Brun, General Manager of Fairmont Hanoi. "We believe true luxury is not only about the experiences we create for our guests, but also the positive impact we leave on our environment and community. From smarter resource management to preserving local heritage and creating opportunities for young people, our ambition is to make responsible hospitality an integral part of everything we do."
SMARTER RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
Fairmont Hanoi has introduced a data-driven approach to waste reduction, using Orbisk's AI-powered food waste monitoring technology alongside a comprehensive waste weighing and segregation system developed with a local partner.
In September, the hotel recorded a 50% reduction in waste volume compared with August, alongside a 40% reduction in waste collection fees. Improved segregation has also enabled the identification and diversion of up to six categories of recyclable materials.
Other green initiatives include a partnership with Nespresso to collect and recycle used coffee capsules, and the recovery of condensation water from air-conditioning for landscape irrigation, reducing reliance on potable water.
MAKING SUSTAINABILITY PART OF THE GUEST EXPERIENCE
Technology plays an important role in balancing environmental efficiency with guest comfort. A Guest Room Management System (GRMS) optimises in-room energy consumption through centralised control of lighting, air conditioning and electrical equipment.
Guests can discover the hotel's sustainability initiatives through using the Hudini digital guest platform, while electric transportation options are also actively encouraged as part of a more responsible travel experience.
PRESERVING HERITAGE, SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES
Fairmont Hanoi is committed to celebrating Vietnam's cultural heritage while championing contemporary artistic expression. By hosting cultural and artistic events, the hotel provides a platform for Vietnamese artists to showcase their creativity where traditional craftsmanship is reinterpreted through a modern lens and presented to contemporary audiences.
This vision comes to life through initiatives such as the Mid-Autumn Festival celebrations and VỌNG – Echoes of Heritage, an exhibition featuring ceramic artist Vũ Hữu Nhung and sculptor Trần Thược. Through these engaging cultural connections, Fairmont Hanoi aspires to become a vibrant “social epicentre” in the heart of the capital, where art, heritage and modern hospitality converge.
In line with its social initiatives, Fairmont Hanoi works closely with the Blue Dragon Children's Foundation, building a long-term partnership to support vulnerable children in Vietnam. Initiatives include workshops with hotel staff in learning about culinary skills through to hospitality work experience programs for possible career paths. Staff members also volunteer to assist with food growing activities, fundraising, and participate in community events. On the 24th of October, the hotel team will be participating in Walking with Blue Dragon, an annual fundraising and awareness event organized to support the Foundation.
Together, these efforts reflect Fairmont Hanoi's belief that responsible hospitality should create lasting value for both people and place.
For Fairmont Hanoi, Green Globe certification represents not a final destination, but a foundation for continuous improvement. Through its dedicated Green Team, the hotel will continue strengthening its environmental performance, engaging colleagues and guests, and developing meaningful partnerships that contribute to a more sustainable future for Hanoi.
