Jamaica Inn was recently recertified by Green Globe Certification. Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios, St Ann is a family-owned luxury boutique resort renowned for its classic charm and understated elegance. Nestled on a peaceful 8-acre estate, it features a spectacular 700-foot private champagne-sand beach and 52 spacious, open-air suites and cottages, each with panoramic views of the Caribbean Sea.
“All the team at Jamaica Inn are proud to be recertified once again by Green Globe Certification. At Jamaica Inn, we believe true hospitality extends to both our environment and our community. Our green initiatives reflect a deep-rooted commitment to sustainability, conservation and social impact,” said Kyle Mais, General Manager at the resort.
First certified in 2012, the resort is dedicated to sustainable tourism and best practices. The management team, owners and staff ensure that sustainability is implemented from the top down reaching every aspect of hotel operations and beyond to the wider community. Jamaica Inn’s initiatives range from environmental conservation programs through to social projects.
Mangrove Restoration
The resort has developed an innovative onsite saltwater hydroponic system to cultivate and nurture mangrove seedlings. 30 Red and White Mangrove trees, native species to Jamaica, are currently planted at the property. The saplings will be transplanted to the Jobson Bay Eco-Park in Trelawny in the coming months, a calm beach suitable for out planting. The mangrove initiative plays an important role in restoring and protecting Jamaica’s vital coastal ecosystems.
Sea Turtle Conservation
Since 2016, Jamaica Inn has proudly supported the conservation of the endangered Hawksbill Turtle, with its dedicated Wildlife Warden - affectionately known as the Turtle Whisperer - overseeing the program. Every summer from July to November, these gentle creatures safely nest and hatch on the beach at the resort. In the summer months, guests can witness mother turtles coming ashore and digging nests to lay her eggs or help tiny turtle hatchlings make their way to the open sea.
More than 20 nests are incubated each year, with over 2,000 hatchlings safely released each season. In 2025 alone, 3,519 turtles hatched at the beach. To date, more than 10,000 hatchlings have been released over the years, helping protect an important part of Jamaica’s marine ecosystem.
Coral Planting
Coral propagation and restoration is another key priority for the resort. Since the 1970s, severe weather events, overfishing and disease led to an 85% reduction in coral coverage in the waters around Ocho Rios. After great efforts largely funded and facilitated by the Jamaica Inn Foundation and in collaboration with local fisherman, the White River Fish Sanctuary is now in operation. The 150-hectare (372-acre) Special Fishery Conservation Area is dedicated to restoring marine life, coral reefs and fish stocks. The Foundation also provides funding for warden operations to protect the waters and train as coral gardeners.
Travel with a Purpose – Community Impact
Back onshore, in the local community, Jamaica Inn has adopted Fern Grove Basic School, supporting the primary school through providing assistance with maintenance and gardening, and providing educational toys and school supplies. The resort’s Travel with a Purpose program invites guests to contribute directly to local communities through participating in their Pack for a Purpose initiative. Guests are invited to bring essential school supplies with them which will be donated to the school students. A list compiled by the Jamaica Inn Foundation indicates items that are most needed.
In line with their CSR initiatives, Jamaica Inn also supports Mustard Seed Communities. Recently clothing and essential sanitary items were donated to help support the organisation’s work with vulnerable children and adults.
