Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn: First Hotel in Estonia To Achieve Green Globe Certification
Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn is the first hotel in Estonia to be awarded Green Globe certification. The hotel is located in the heart of the country’s capital city of Tallinn, on the edge of Lembitu Park. Guests can explore the bustling city’s popular attractions with easy access to the Old Town or “Vanalinn”, a protected UNESCO World Heritage site that is home to a 113-hectare medieval area including 13th century streets and old city walls.
Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn embraces a Responsible Approach where all employees share the belief that the hospitality sector plays a significant role in building a better future. Sustainability initiatives have been implemented that care for and support the local community and the environment, demonstrating that comfort, quality and responsibility can coexist easily.
Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn adheres to a zero single-use plastics policy. In bathrooms, individual, single-use mini plastic toiletries have been replaced with refillable dispensers. In addition, all disposable plastic items including straws, cups, and single-serve packaging have been banned across rooms, restaurants, and event spaces.
One of Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn’s proudest initiatives is the installation of a BRITA filtered water system that was introduced in the first half of 2025. Thanks to this solution, still and sparkling filtered water is now served in reusable glass bottles in the restaurant and conference areas. Guests can now enjoy high-quality, clean and refreshing water in a more responsible way and the need for purchased bottled water in single-use packaging reduced. The change has been very well received by Mövenpick Hotel Tallinn’s guests and has become a natural part of their hospitality experience.
Along with plastic-free hotel rooms, the hotel’s sustainability management plan includes digital guest information solutions, waste sorting stations on every floor and mindful food waste reduction practices – initiatives that reflect an ongoing commitment to more sustainable hospitality practices. As part of its waste management strategy, waste volumes and weights are recorded, monitored, and reviewed regularly. Recycling bins are placed in corridors and conference rooms. Reduction goals are also in place for biowaste and will be expanded to other waste streams in the future.
Although newly certified, the hotel has plans to continuously improve its sustainability performance. Preference is given to suppliers who provide reusable packaging and shipping containers or pallets and who offer take-back systems for packaging materials. These criteria are integrated into the hotel’s Purchasing Policy and applied when selecting new suppliers as well as when reviewing existing partners. By prioritizing partners who support reusable and returnable packaging solutions, the hotel reduces waste generation and promotes circular economy practices within its supply chain.
Guests are strongly encouraged to participate in the hotel’s green efforts. Activities include energy and water saving measures, recycling programs, and waste reduction initiatives. Guests can opt to support the linen and towel reuse program to reduce water, energy consumption and the use of chemical cleaning products. Guests can also sort their waste using clearly marked recycling bins located throughout the hotel premises, including on the accommodation floors.
Eco-friendly transportation options are available at the hotel including use of public transportation and electric scooters. Bolt scooters are conveniently available for hire, which the company returns every morning, ensuring regular availability for guests. A scooter parking station is also located next door to the property.
